Welcome to the Luverne Middle and High School home page.
Luverne High School is a great place to go to school. It has everything that one would expect from a small school – small class sizes, caring teachers, good core academics, pride in our students, and lots of respect for each other. It also has the amenities that one would expect from a large school. Here are some of the things that you will find at LHS:
• Great facilities including the Cardinal Gymnasium, an outstanding football stadium, and a great tennis complex;
• A comprehensive academic curriculum that meets the Minnesota Academic Standards;
• A highly endowed Dollars for Scholars program;
• Vocational classes in woods, agriculture, graphics, foods and business;
• College in the School (CIS) courses of Calculus, Statistics, Algebra, Literature, Speech, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, and Writing. Additionally we provide Advanced Placement (AP) courses like Spanish, German, Literature, Physics, Biology;
• Offerings in three languages - Spanish, German and Sign;
• A highly decorated band and choir;
• Nine athletic teams for both boys and girls; and
• Numerous extracurricular activities to round out one’s education at LHS.
Approximately 400 students attend Luverne High School in grades 9-12, with another 300 in the Middle School, grades 6-8. To graduate students need 21.5 credits – 4 in English, 3.5 in social studies, 3 in math, 3 in science, 2 in health and physical education, 1 in fine arts and 5 credits of electives.
Our school day runs from 8:00-3:15. We are on seven-period day with a flex period towards the end of the day where students have a variety of options to work on school work, and sign up for some fun enrichment classes.
Our goal and mission here at Luverne is to educate, equip, and empower students to excel in college. College could be a traditional four-year, or two-year school, but could also include technical degrees, apprenticeships, military, or other more formalized training. We believe Luverne has the infrastructure and teaching staff that will benefit them. We also believe that Luverne has a supportive community that compels them to lead successful lives!
