Every December, the high school commons transforms into what Luverne calls the Festive Forest—a display of Christmas trees decorated by various clubs and sports teams. The tradition began five years ago when the new Commons opened, and it has grown every year. This year, there are 19 trees, the most the school has ever had.
Each group designs its tree in its own style, so the forest becomes a mix of creative, funny, and impressive decorations. The goal is to use the space in a fun way and bring some holiday spirit to the school.
The trees also help set the mood for the big holiday concerts. Around 2,000 people pass through the Commons into the PAC for the performances, and the Festive Forest gives them a warm, seasonal welcome as they walk in.
It’s a simple tradition, but one that makes the school feel a little brighter during the winter.
