Students driving tractors

Each year, Luverne High School celebrates its agricultural roots by hosting a “Drive Your Tractor to School Day” for FFA students. While the event is a favorite tradition, it often depends heavily on timing and weather conditions. Cooler temperatures can make the drive uncomfortable for students operating open-cab tractors, while unseasonably warm weather means many tractors are already in use as farmers prepare for the planting season.

This year presented a mix of both challenges. With slightly chilly conditions and the April 14 insurance planting date fast approaching, fieldwork is already underway on many local farms. Despite these obstacles—and busy schedules that included after-school activities—nine students still showed their dedication and school spirit by participating in the event on Friday, April 10.

A highlight of the day was a parade of tractors in front of the elementary school, giving younger students a chance to see the impressive equipment up close and celebrate the strong connection between the school and the local farming community.
